I’m SO looking forward to welcoming you to the Practical Magic Weekend Retreat. In order to make our time as magical as possible, I’ve have outlined a few things you might need in advance of travelling to the Isle of Wight to join me in a weekend of relaxation and reinvigoration.

Please note that the schedule will be subject to change based on the flow of the weekend, and what activities we’re doing (and the weather of course!), but this is a guide.

I’ll provide you with this outline printed out for when you arrive too.

We also want to share that this is your time. Don’t feel you have to do everything every single day. If you want to take a morning to sleep in, or an evening to read and relax, you do that.

  • Pack clothes for the weather - think cosy layers, warm jumpers and (plenty of) socks, especially for the evening.

  • Yoga type clothes: comfortable to move in tops, yoga pants.

  • A yoga mat (if you’re arriving by car, if not, don’t worry).

  • Sweaters, shawl, blanket or jacket to keep warm at night.

  • Some outdoor / walking shoes to explore the forest across the road from retreat space.

  • Umbrella and/or rain coat (just in case).

  • Sacred objects. Bring anything you would like to be honoured on the altar like photos, statues, crystals, candles, things from nature, intentions and anything else that calls to you.

  • Ear plugs (if you’re a light sleeper).

  • Journal & pens.

  • Camera/batteries/charger.

  • Alarm clock.

  • Water bottle.

  • Organic soaps and beauty products, (the retreat centre is bio-sustainable, all grey water goes to irrigate the land).

  • Any medications - prescriptions or cold/allergy medicine that you use regularly.

The address for Tiny Homes is Hillis Gate Rd, Cowes, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 5UB.

If you’re travelling by train, you can either arrive to Southampton Central or Portsmouth Harbour. Check train times here.

By foot

The retreat space itself is located next to Parkhurst Forest on the outskirts of West Cowes, so you have the option to arrive as a foot passenger and then get a taxi. The best option is the Red Jet from Southampton to West Cowes, which is only around 10 minutes to the space. The Fast Cat from Portsmouth to Ryde or the hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde. Taxis from here will take around 30 minutes.

By car

If you’re bringing a car, you can either travel from Southampton to East Cowes with Red Funnel, Portsmouth to Fishborne, or Lymington to Yarmouth by Wightlink.

For more travel information take a look here

Should you wish to book car ferry return travel, you can take advantage of a discounted rate of £75.00 through booking directly with Helen at Tiny Homes, please email her directly

You will be served with three delicious vegetarian or vegan meals per day. Should you wish to get snacks or drinks there’s a supermarket 15 minutes drive away. If you wish to have wine with your dinner, please feel free to BYOB.

You will have the opportunity to have a ‘before and after’ chakra aura photography session. Charlotte Smith will be at the space between 17:00-18:00 on Friday and 09:00-12:00 on Monday. She will provide you with images of your chakra system before and after the Practical Magic Weekend Retreat along with a report to help you understand how to work with your chakras. This is £55.00 for the before and after shots, or £35.00 if you cannot stay for the after shots on Monday. If you had your image taken last time, and would like a chakra checkup (but without the full report), that will be £20.00. You can find out more about chakra aura photography here.

Were delighted to be joined by expert bodyworker Leah Thomas. She will be offering hour-long treatments  on both Saturday and Sunday. Shes kindly providing these at a very magic discounted rate of £40.00 for an hours treatment. This will be payable directly to Leah (PayPal, cash or BACS).

Pack light – there is a storage area known as ‘the nook’ accessible by loft ladder and to be used strictly by adults only. There you will find a hanging rail, various storage boxes and a place to stow your luggage. There are various hooks and hanging devices throughout the Tiny but the less you have the easier it will be!

Getting used to the space… take it slowly and adjust to the unusual shape of your new home, especially on the mezzanine levels. You may not be used to sloping / low ceilings, and of course ladders! A panel is provided for the sleeping mezzanine if you prefer to enclose the space fully.

Power is solar power and 12 volt. There are lots of USB charger sockets. Please note any heat giving appliances cannot be used – i.e. hairdryers. NB on cloudy days treat the solar lighting is gold dust! It maybe that you will lose the lights in the evening... lanterns are provided! If you wish to use a hairdryer or charge anything that can't be charged via USB please let us know and we can make arrangements for you.

Toilets are composting and all instructions are given on use of these – they are amazing, honestly!

Water and our reed beds – we need to imagine we are somewhere where water is more precious. Use sparingly and be mindful of what you put down the plugholes! Coffee grounds and cooking fats etc. must be disposed of mindfully – we will provide ways of doing this. Your use of environmentally friendly health and beauty products where possible is appreciated.

What is provided

All linens and towels are provided for you along with tea towels and washing up liquid / cleaning products / toilet paper. Fuel is provided for your log burner. There are more pellets in the bin marked ASH by the bins in the car park. It is fine to suppose of ash from the burner on the grass behind the tiny once cooled!

Outdoor table and chairs and a barbecue. The kitchen is well but simply kitted out and you have a regular sized cooker and fridge with an icebox. There is enough storage for a few days food supplies but probably not a week’s worth.

Eco cleaning products and detergents are supplied.

We hope that you enjoy living small for a while and thank you for helping us to tread lightly on our earth’s resources this break.

I can’t wait to gather with you for the weekend, safe travels to get here. If you have any other questions that I haven’t covered here, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Big love, Kate x
